Peugeot steps up its commitment to Morocco and is driving the automotive boom in the African country

  • The need for a reliable and effective transport network to Morocco for this and other industries such as aeronautics is growing yet further

  • We at ARIN EXPRESS have had our own office in Tangier since 2006. The vast experience we have gained has enabled us to anticipate problems and to ensure that our clients’ shipments always arrive on time and in the proper way

The PSA Group is made up of the Peugeot and Citroën automobile manufacturers, and since 2017, Opel and Vauxhall are also part of the group. It also owns DS Automobiles, a spin-off from Citroën that manufactures luxury sports cars. The Group is the second largest car manufacturer in Europe, with 15.4% market share, and its commitment to Morocco is becoming more and more evident. In fact, just before the summer, it started to manufacture vehicles at its new plant in Kenitra, 90 kilometres from the capital, Rabat; and by 2020, it expects to manufacture a total of 200,000 cars a year, mostly to supply European factories. The Kenitra plant has brought with it an extensive network of automotive component suppliers to Morocco, almost exclusively dedicated to servicing the group.

In short, an intense activity (added to the pre-existing activity from Renault and other manufacturers) is going to require a robust transport business structure in Morocco.

We at ARIN EXPRESS know a thing or two about this: We have been located in Tangier since 2006, with both operational and commercial teams, professionals who are experts in organising the entry and exit of goods, and in offering quick solutions (because in the business of express delivery every minute counts) adapted to the needs of companies. Alongside our office in Tangier, we are also present in San Sebastian (our head office), Barcelona, and Turkey.

We facilitate the integral management of express transport to automotive companies, both in the search for the most appropriate vehicle and in providing support for the necessary customs documentation. We work with thousands of self-employed drivers and other logistics partners from all over Europe, and in addition to Morocco, our main destinations include: France, Germany, Russia, Armenia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic, and Turkey.

Optimum express transport service to Morocco

We are therefore ready to offer an optimum automotive transport service to Morocco. In a few short years, the country has become the second largest vehicle manufacturer in Africa, surpassed only by South Africa; and 85% of that production is destined for export. The possibilities it offers for manufacturing at lower costs (and with skilled labour) have made the world’s major car manufacturers sit up and take notice. The fact that it is also the gateway to an entire continent makes it yet another incentive. The Tanger-Med port is now, in fact, the new economic driving force in Morocco. It is the first port in Africa and the fourth in the Mediterranean in terms of traffic volume.

The executive vice-president of the PSA Group for the Middle East and Africa, Jean-Christophe Quémard, recently stressed that Morocco represents a ‘strategic’ market for the French company. ‘Alongside the Kenitra plant, a complete ecosystem has been deployed in the image of those developed in other strategic regions of the group, with a decision-making and R&D centre in Casablanca’, he added. Is Morocco set to become the world’s new automobile powerhouse?
